Sucheta Pyakuryal, Inter-Generational Feminist Forum (Nepal)
What drives my work is the quiet, persistent strength of communities that continue to aspire for dignity, political autonomy and inclusion despite generations of structural neglect. Trained as an academic and an instructor of politics, gender studies and public affairs, my work in academia, governance and public policy has consistently shown me that systemic oppression is rarely accidental. It is intentionally designed into our institutional, economic and political structures. Yet, even within these rigid frameworks, ordinary people cultivate alternative ways of organizing, caring for one another, and exercising agency. My core motivation is to help shift structural power, so communitarian efforts are no longer suppressed, but given the space to reshape public life.
I bridge academic inquiry with ground-level civic action. I use my training in political science and institutional analysis to interrogate legal structures, translate academic research into actionable policy tools, and create spaces for authentic democratic dialogue in platforms such as Inter-Generational Feminist Forum. I try my best to focus on equipping women community leaders with practical insights to reclaim control over their local governance, resources, and collective futures. At Tribhuvan University’s Central Department of Gender Studies, we do not simply critique broken systems from an ivory tower; we actively support and study best practices and models designed to replace them.
Dismantling entrenched institutional control and confronting deeply resistant power structure requires us to look beyond quick fixes and commit to the steady, thoughtful labour of long-term transformation. By continually questioning the status quo and showing solidarity for the periphery, we help make room for new ways of living and governing. Every conversation, policy tool and community initiative moves us forward. Our goal is to keep pushing until these alternative perspectives are so strong, visible and effective that they can no longer be ignored or pushed aside.
